Sri Lanka’s Danushka Gunathilaka has been ruled out of the 2018 Asia Cup and will return to the country after sustaining a lower back injury.

Shehan Jayasuriya, who was in the stand-by list will fly to UAE on Friday; as the replacement for Gunathilaka.

Opener Gunathilaka was earlier suspended for six matches ahead of the ODI series against South Africa and after he was found breaching the SLC Code that made him ineligible to stay outside his room after midnight or to accommodate guests in his room during matches.

A friend of Gunathilaka was arrested under allegations of rape of a Norwegian woman in a hotel room. Gunathilaka was not charged but was detained for questioning by the police. Nevertheless, he breached the SLC Code that made him ineligible to stay outside his room after midnight or to accommodate guests in his room during matches.

Sri Lanka was earlier hit with the injury blow to former captain Dinesh Chandimal. Chandimal was named in the inital Asia Cup squad but after he failed to recover from his  finger injury sustained during the SLC T20 League 2018. Niroshan Dickwella was added to the squad in place of Chandimal.
