Sammy's knocks safeguards win for St Lucia Zouks

St Lucia Zouks won their second match in CPL 2016 by beating St Kitts & Nevis Patriots by 35 runs. Darren Sammy‘s knock was the highlight of the game as he came to the rescue when St Lucia Zouks needed to score runs at a brisk rate towards the end of the first innings. St Kitts & Nevis Patriots suffered a batting collapse and ultimately fell short of 35 runs at the end. St Kitts lost their openers Lendl Simmons and Evis Lewis early on in the innings. JJ Smuts and skipper Faf du Plessis tried to rescue but failed. As soon as Smuts got out wicket kepts falling from the other end. Devon Thomas and former Australian batsman Brad Hodge got out cheaply to add to the worries of Du Plessis at the other end. Jonathan Carter got run out unluckily which eventually created pressure on Du Plessis and towards the end of the innings he got out, two runs short of his half century.

Delorn Jhonson picked up three wickets and Jerome Taylor picked up two. Shane Watson, Morne Morkel and Sammy took one wicket each. Earlier Earlier St Lucia Zouks managed to score 174, thanks to Sammy who scored 59 runs when his team were losing wickets at regular intervals. Andre Fletcher got out early, Jonathan Carter too got out after his cameo up the order. Watson and Michael Hussey tried to get hold the situation but failed as Watson got out in seventh over. Hussey followed him later on in the innings.

Darren Sammy came in to bat when St Lucia Zouks lost former Australian batsman Michael Hussey in 11th over. Sammy was running out of partners as South African batsman David Miller too failed to make an impact on the game. Sammy set all guns blazing as he struck five sixes and two fours to bring up his half century. Alzarri Joseph took four wickets but proved expensive towards the end of the innings.
