ICC CEO Dave Richardson has backed India to come string and ahs also predicted India as the potential favourites to win the ICC World T20 2016, scheduled to be held in India from March. During the official launch event of the tournament in Mumbai on Friday, Richardson said, “India are favourites in home conditions. But West Indies won in Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka in Bangladesh. It’s an open tournament.” India, who won the inaugural edition in 2007 in South Africa, beating Pakistan in the final, came close to make it double in the previous edition in 2014 in Bangladesh, but lost to Sri Lanka. Earlier, Richardson on Friday praised India for its concern towards world cricket and caring for the game, during the ICC World T20 2016 official launch at Mumbai. “India has always been a country that supports Cricket, not only the Indian cricket team,” he said. “We need to promote the tournament as well as we can. India has done well in taking up with the T20 cricket,” he added. The ICC World T20 2016 is all set to be hosted from March 11 to April 3 in India, as this would also be the sixth annual ICC World T20 event ever since it was inaugurated in 2007. BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur on Friday also said that the ICC World T20 2016, which is scheduled to be hosted by India in March to April, will be more entertaining than the precvious editions. “The World T20 will be bigger and more entertaining this time,” said Thakur. “Having learnt from IPL and other leagues, India is ready to host the ICC World T20 2016. We will ensure everyone gets to experience the best of India,” he added.
