David Warner clarifies his statement regarding U-turn from retirement: ‘my phone rang…’

Former Australian opener David Warner has issued a clarification and stated that he would make a U-turn from his retirement if the Australian team management asks him to play. Warner recently opened the door of him making a comeback since he Pat Cummins and co. asked him to do so.

Now explaining his comment, Warner stated that during his commentary debut on Fox Sports for the 1st ODI between Australia and Pakistan that he would never decline the invitation if the Australian management asked him to return.

“My comment was only if my phone rang and they called me and if they asked. (In that case) you’re not going to say no. You’re not going to turn down a game for Australia. I think a lot of it got taken out of context by some people but it is what it is. If I was to get a call, why wouldn’t I say yes?” said Warner on commentary.

David announced his retirement after the Test series against Pakistan. In October 2024, he was also declared clean of the ban which was given to him by Cricket Australia after the ball-tampering scandal in 2018.
