Day One of the final Test of the four-Test series between England and Pakistan ended with England having their nose ahead in the Test match. Winning the toss, England came out to bat but early jolts kept them on the mat. They lost Alex Hales, James Vince and Gary Ballance in quick successions to give Pakistan the edge till the first two sessions, but a late fightback staged by England’s lower-order propelled their total to 328. Moeen Ali scored his third Test hundred while Jonny Bairstow scored a valiant fifty along with Chris Woakes 45 to give some push to their team’s total. Pakistan lost their young opener, Sami Aslam, before the stroke of stumps as Azhar Ali and Yasir Shah will have to battle it out for their team on Day Two. Pakistan brought in debutant, Iftikhar Ahmed in place of Mohammad Hafeez whereas Rahat Ali missed out and Wahab Riaz came in his place for this decisive Test match. On the other hand, the hosts went with the same team which had cause a remarkable turnaround in the third Test to win it in the final day by 141 runs. They are leading the series 2-1 which all the more makes this match do-or-die for the visitors.

Wahab Riaz started England’s downfall at The Oval, the same venue where he made his Test debut in 2010, as he purchased good bounce and movement from the track but Sohail Khan‘s regular wickets, in between the England innings, helped him pick his second five-for in Tests. Pakistan still allowed England to score freely in the entire day as they scored at four runs per over and Moeen and wicketkeeper-batsman, Bairstow’s efforts bailed the home team from troubled waters.
