Among the retained list of the players before the mega auctions of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Deepak Chahar did not find his name to be on the players retained by Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Deepak has been dominating in CSK since the 2016 edition, and is hoping for the franchise to keep him in this upcoming edition as well.

Deepak has been mainly called to bowl with the new ball in powerplay overs. He claims that he can keep the batters in check where the era is of scoring big numbers in IPL more frequently.

I was not retained by them in the last mega auction as well. But they went all out for me and bought me back. I don’t know what will happen this year, but I know my skill will be valued more now given the fact that around 90-100 runs are being scored in the Powerplay and that’s why the teams are scoring more than 200 more frequently. I have proved how valuable I can be in limiting runs in that phase of the game,” he said.

CSK retained 5 players before the mega auctions namely Ruturaj Gaikwad (Rs 18 crore), Ravindra Jadeja (Rs 18 crore), Matheesha Pathirana (Rs 13 crore), Shivam Dube (Rs 12 crore) and MS Dhoni (Rs 4 crore). The franchise can now use Right to Match (RTM) card in the mega auctions for a capped or an uncapped player.
