For the upcoming domestic season in India‘s cricket schedule, Deepti Sharma has decided to leave Uttar Pradesh and join Bengal. Reportedly, Deepti had received offers from Railways and Baroda but finally settled for Bengal, where she will play with her India teammate Jhulan Goswami. Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) confirmed the news, adding that this might turn out to be another fruitful learning experience for Deepti. Jhulan, on the other hand, believes this will benefit Bengal cricket.

Talking to Wisden India, CAB women’s coach Jayanta Ghosh Dastidar said, Bengal is already a strong team, since we have a player like Jhulan Goswami. Yet, to have a genuine all-rounder and upcoming cricketer will boost our strength.

Rita Dey, Deepti’s mentor and former India cricketer, believes this will further improve Deepti’s game.

The shift to Bengal is a boon for her as she will get to play with some international cricketers including Jhulan Goswani, who is a living legend. This will develop her game.”

It will benefit Bengal cricket to have such a talented youngster, who has already established herself in international cricket. It will motivate younger girls to learn the good things from her. We ll welcome her [so] that she ll feel comfortable and play freely and enjoy her cricket, exclaimed Jhulan.
