New Delhi: Delhi Daredevils (DD) might have suffered two narrow defeats over the past week, extending their losing streak to 11 in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2015, but all-rounder Angelo Mathews said the team was still hopeful of a turnaround. Delhi lost to Rajasthan Royals in a last-ball finish on Sunday after having started their campaign in IPL-8 with a defeat at the hands of Chennai Super Kings.

“We got so close in the last couple of games. We could have won the Chennai game and the last game as well. We got so close to the line but just couldn’t hold on. It’s still the start of the season, we can still turn it around and the boys are doing really good, the environment is great. We are enjoying our cricket and that’s how it should be. We will try and bounce back and bounce back hard,” Mathews said. DD look to end unlucky streak against KXIP in Match 10 of IPL 2015

Asked about his own role in the side, Mathews, whose last ball was hit for a boundary in the game against Royals, felt Twenty20 cricket is all about enjoying the game. “T20 is all about enjoying yourself, having fun. You can’t put a lot of pressure on ourselves individually. We just have to go out there and enjoy.

“Not only me, all the boys are equally good and we can turn the game around at any given opportunity. We just have to go out there, enjoy ourselves, be positive and impressive. Talking about the Daredevils team combination, the Sri Lankan cricketer said, “Obviously it depends on the opposition and the wicket we are playing. We’ve got players who can handle different situations and different conditions and different bowling attacks.

“And you got to be flexible with your batting order especially in T20 cricket because you don’t know what situation you may have to face and you have to send the best player to try and deal with the situation.

“We have our combinations flexible and that’s the way it should be, especially when you are batting, the top seven batters have to be ready, when given the opportunity to try and prove yourself, go and enjoy and play positive cricket.” PTI AH
