It was Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match at Shere Bangla Stadium, Mirpur where Mortaza’s Kalabagan Krira Chakra (KKC) were up against Prime Bank (PB). KKC had already lost their previous two matches this match was a must win for them, which made the skipper sacrifice his rest. Mortaza’s 8 overs bore 3 wickets for 45 runs. The skipper shortened his usually long run up to keep going for a longer time. He bagged 3 wickets within 11 balls and brought KKC back in the game. Talking to bdnews24.com, Mortaza said, “I was physically weak and that is why I took a short run up. I continued my spell for 8 overs as I could not continue if I had taken a break in between. After I started bowling, I gained a momentum and tried to end my spell with bowling in longer stints.”

When asked why he took up all the toil, he said, “I had no other option. We had already lost two matches, the bowling has been a weak zone for us and without me the conditions could have been worse.”

Team’s coach Jalal Ahmed later said, ” Thinking about him, I had asked him to take rest. But he is an exceptional human being. He went out to play thinking about his team.”

“When a captain leads from the front like this, the teammates must also outdo themselves. Unfortunately they could not,” Jalal added.
