World Cup winning Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was on Wednesday accorded a grand welcome here as he returned home after being away from it for four months.

Accompanied by wife Sakshi Singh Rawat, Dhoni was greeted by hundreds of drum beating and cheering fans at the Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi.

Sporting an army fatigue-like outfit, Dhoni smiled and waved at his fans before boarding a waiting vehicle which drove down to his resident at Harmu, where several fans greeted him.

“Badhai ho (congratulations), Mahi (as Dhoni is known here) for winning the World Cup after 28 years,” a fan shouted at the top of his voice while cheering Dhoni.

After leading Team India to World Cup victory on April 2, Dhoni spearheaded Chennai Super Kings to their second consecutive IPL title after defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 28.

After the IPL final, Dhoni had said that he had been out of home for about four months and his first destination would be Ranchi. Dhoni would stay for some days at home before leaving for the West Indies for India’s Test series there, starting June 20.
