Indian captain MS Dhoni is surprised by England star batsman Kevin Pietersen’s decision to quit from international limited overs cricket.
Dhoni was quoted by Indian Sports News as saying, “I am surprised with his decision. He has been a great cricketer in both the formats of the game. We have all enjoyed his batting and he had a great impact in this year’s IPL as well.
“He will be sincerely missed in this year’s World Twenty20. It is good that he will carry on playing in Test cricket and I wish him luck in his career.”
Pietersen on Thursday has announced retirement from all international limited overs cricket.
Pietersen has been a key component of the England batting and would have been crucial to team’s chances in the upcoming T20 World Cup in September in Sri Lanka.
The South African-born batsman played 127 One-Day Internationals and 36 T20s for England.
The star batsman had expressed desire to play in the upcoming T20 World Cup in Sri Laka.
He was quoted by the British media as saying,””I am immensely proud of my achievements in the One-day game and still wish to be considered for selection for England in Test cricket.
“For the record, were the selection criteria not in place, I would have readily played for England in the upcoming ICC World Twenty20.”
