Former India batsman Dilip Vengsarkar may take the charge as the next Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) president after the demise of Vilasrao Deshmukh on Tuesday.
Â
According a report in Times of India, the constitution of the MCA states that the closest losing candidate should take over to complete the term.

Former India batsman Vengsarkar was Deshmukh’s opponent in the election for the president’s post.
Â
Vengsarkar is currently in England and is expected to return by the end of August. In the event of Vengsarkar refusing to take charge, the MCA will conduct a re-election.
Â
Earlier in July 2011, Deshmukh, backed by Sharad Pawar pipped Vengsarkar in a fiercely fought contest to become the new president of the Mumbai Cricket Association.
