Sri Lankan middle-order batsman Dinesh Chandimal on Friday slammed the fastest century for his country against India in Test cricket. Chandimal brought up his fourth Test ton — and his first against an opponent apart from Bangladesh — on the third day of the opening Test against India to take his team from a position in trouble to a position in command. Chandimal added more than 100 runs to revive Sri Lanka’s second innings, after it looked like India will be able to finish the game on the third day itself.  Live Cricket Scorecard: India vs Sri Lanka 2015, 1st Test at Galle, Day 3

This is the 19th Test in Chandimal’s career. The 25-year-old cricketer has also played in 100 Tests and 27 Twenty20 Internationals for Sri Lanka. In his first 18 Tests, Chandimal has scored 1,167 runs at an average of 41.67 with three centuries and seven half-centuries to his name.

Earlier at tea, Dinesh Chandimal and Lahiru Thirimanne put on a century stand to steer Sri Lanka away from a follow-on in the first Test against India in Galle on Friday. The hosts, who trailed India by 192 runs in the first innings, fought back from 95-5 to reach 263-6 in their second knock by tea on the third day, AFP reported.
