‘Don’t blame you’: England’s County Championship mock Virat Kohli on his retirement from Test cricket
County Championship mocks Kohli for announcing Test retirement
The entire world cricket has been sent to a state of shock as reports have confirmed India’s star batter Virat Kohli having had a conversation with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about retiring from Test cricket. Even though an official announcement is yet to be made from Kohli’s side, the selectors are now in a state of dilemma to finalise the squad for the upcoming Test series against England.
The series between India and England is going to begin June 20 and ahead of the series, the County Championship have taken a strong dig towards Virat Kohli. as they shared a mocking video on their social media account.
Sharing a video on their X (formerly known as Twitter) account, County Championship posted a video, which showed some wickets that the England pacers Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue took in England’s domestic tournament. The post was captioned “We don’t blame you Virat.”
The reason for posting this video can be taken as if to mock Virat Kohli and his fear of/having trouble while facing England bowlers in English conditions, especially since his performance in the longest format of the game has witnessed a decline.
According to reports, Virat Kohli has been having discussions with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for more than a month. If Kohli actually ends up in retiring from Test cricket, it will mark the end of his spectacular 14-year long career. He played 123 matches in the longest format of the game, and scored 9230 runs with 30 centuries and an average of 46.85.
Apart from having a great record in batting department, Virat Kohli was also the most successful captain for India in the format, as he led the national team in 68 Test matches, and won 40 of them.
In case Virat Kohli retires from the red-ball format, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant are going to be the most senior players in the team. Even though he has had low outcome in the red-ball format in recent time, Shubman Gill is a strong contender who might be given the leadership role for the England Test series
