Indian coach Duncan Fletcher feels has opener Gautam Gambhir has put himself under too much pressure which has let to his downfall in the ongoing Test series Down Under.
Fletcher was quoted in BCCI website as saying,” I think the only problem with Gautam is that he is a little tentative at the moment. He looks to hit the ball and then leave it.
Fletcher conceded that struggling opener Gautam Gambhir will have to be a “lot more positive” in his approach to come out of his lean but defended the team’s batsmen despite their continuing poor run. The Indian coach was optimistic that the Indian opener would be striking the ball well sooner.
He said,” “He has put himself under a little bit of pressure but we have been working in the nets where he feels a lot more positive. Today [he got out on] the second or third ball [of the day] and that could happen to anyone. He is in a good space. Very soon he will be striking the ball very well.”
