The representatives of East Zone are all set to meet at the Eden Gardens tomorrow to decide on their agendas for the upcoming all-important BCCI AGM slated on September 19 and 20.

One of the main item would be to take a unified stand on the senior selector who will represent East Zone. Also the issue of who will be the secretarial candidate will also come up for discussion.

It has been learnt that there are two candidates for secretary’s post from East Zone. Jharkhand’s Amitabh Choudhary and Orissa’s Ranjib Biswal are in the fray with former national selector Biswal being slightly ahead in the race.

“Yes, there will be discussions regarding Raja Venkat’s performance during the past three seasons. As of now, all the state associations from east are pretty unanimous about seeking a replacement for Venkat,” one of the officials of an East Zone state told PTI today.

As per rules, it’s the board which takes final call about a selector and zones don’t have any say regarding that. When asked whether BCCI will pay heed to their request, the official said, “We respect BCCI’s decision. It will be a request as per popular demand from eastern states and the board is free to take a call.” (PTI)
