England started the new year on a good as captain Alastair Cook won the toss and in no time decided to bat first in the second Test on a bright and sunny Cape Town morning. South Africa skipper Hashim Amla must be cursing his luck after losing another toss in his long list of unsuccessful calls.Alex Hales and Nick Compton have played with composure after the fall of Cook. Cook and Hales came out to bat against a revamped African bowling attack without the likes of Dale Steyn and Kyle Abbott, who sat out citing injuries.  Cook and Hales got England to a rather steady start before opening up their arms for some classical boundaries. Kagiso Rabada who is playing his first Test at home soil picked up the wicket of Cook who was caught in slips by a diving debutante Chris Morris. England go into lunch at 76  for one, with Nick Compton and Alex Hales batting on 3 and 38 respectively .  Live Cricket Scorecard : South Africa vs England, 2nd Test at Cape Town, Day 1
