England continue to struggle at 260-6 at stumps on Day 1 of 4th Test vs South Africa

England were 260 for the loss of six wickets against South Africa, on Day One of the fourth Test of the Basil D'Oliveira Trophy 2017 at Manchester.

Hosts England were off to a slow start in the opening innings, as they finished on 260 for the loss of six wickets against visitors South Africa, on Day One of the fourth and final Test of the Basil D’Oliveira Trophy 2017, at Old Trafford in Manchester on Friday. Currently, Jonny Bairtow and Toby Roland-Jones are the batsmen, batting on 33 and zero, respectively. England skipper Joe Root and Ben Stokes were the top scorers of the day, scoring 52 and 58, respectively. As for South Africa, the bowlers put up a combined and decent performance, with Kagiso Rabada and Duanne Olivier claiming a couple of wickets each. England began the day on a positive note, as after losing just a wicket, they managed to score 67 at the lunch break. However, the post-lunch session did not go in their favour, as they lost three crucial wickets in the session. Nevertheless, there were twin 50-run stand involved during the session, as England managed to score 147 at the tea break. The post-tea session was a subtle effort from both the sides to keep hings tight. Root immediately scored his half-century. Meanwhile, in the process, Stokes too brought up his half-century. However, when it come to converting it into a big one, he failed as he was bowled up by Rabada for 58. Nevertheless, he along with Bairstow put up another 50-run stand for the sixth wicket, as England finished the day on 260 for the loss of six wickets.
