3:40pm IST: Bad news, the start of play has been delayed due to a wet outfield.

On day one, the Lankan bowlers surprised the hosts with a rookie attack that ran through the English batting. Dasun Shanaka started the damage and made his Test debut special with three wickets while Dushmantha Chameera and Rangana Herath played perfect partners in crime.

It was Alex Hales who did an exceptional job for England holding the innings together while Jonny Bairstow showed his class scoring a much needed 140 that took the score to 298. Chasing the target, Sri Lanka were reduced for 91 and England enforced follow on. Dimuth Karunaratne and Kaushal Silva are batting in the second session.
