Live Cricket Score and Updates | Sri Lanka 33/3| Session 2 | Dinesh Chandimal 14(35), Angelo Mathews 6(26) | Ben Stokes comes in as the first change for England. Maiden to start off. Sensible batting from the two, negating the swing and leaving the outside-off balls. Just short, good ball from Broad finds the edge of Silva, but it doesn’t reach the second slip. First boundary of the innings from Silva, played towards mid-wicket. Both the batsmen look fairly comfortbale up until this point, which is a good sign for SL.

Live Cricket Score and Updates | Sri Lanka 0/0| Session 2 | Dimuth Karunaratne 0(6), Kaushal Silva 0(0)Welcome back. The inexperienced Sri Lankan side will tackle swing of Anderson in the first over. It’s a maiden over to start off, which also involved a run-out chance for the hosts.

Live Cricket Score and Updates | England 209/5 | Drinks | Alex Hales 78(181) , Jonny Bairstow 84(125) | NO BALL! Sadly, no free hit in Test cricket. Both the batsmen are slowly but steadily heading towards respective centuries, a big thing considering England were 83/5 at on point of time. And it’s drinks break.

Live Cricket Score and Updates | England 204/5 | Session 1| Alex Hales 74(175) , Jonny Bairstow 84(118)Shanaka comes in as the first change for the day, and concedes just a run. Skipper Angelo Mathews brings himself on to try and get a wicket. But even he is unable to break the pairing. What a shot! Bairstow hits a beautiful drive towards mid-on, and gets a boundary. Shanaka’s medium-pace should not be taken lightly by the batsmen, even more now that he was the chief destructor yesterday.

Live Cricket Score and Updates | England 198/5 | Session 1| Alex Hales 74(172) , Jonny Bairstow 78(103) | Dropped! Bairstow hits a wild shot, and it was just left of Pradeep, but an unfortunate slip at the wrong moment means the batsman survives. A brilliant cut from Bairstow gets him a boundary.

Live Cricket Score and Updates | England 188/5 | Session 1| Alex Hales 72(166) , Jonny Bairstow 70(91)  | Eranga continues on, and both batsmen run beautifully to complete two doubles, knowing runs are tough to come by. And Hales survives a half shout for an lbw of Pradeep, although there was a clear inside edge.  Hales finally gets his first runs for the day, nudging the ball towards mid-on. Wild lash from Bairstow, who is not finding it as easy as yesterday.

Live Cricket Score and Updates | England 182/5 | Session 1| Alex Hales 71(161) , Jonny Bairstow 65(78) |The first over the day costs just a run. Still a lot of movement around and English batsmen are kind enough to wait for the opportunities. In the second over, a beautiful shot from Bairstow of Sharminda Eranga gets him a four, despite slow outfield. But the very next over saw both Bairstow and Hales missing the ball from the edge, indicating the amount of assistance still available

The play will be extended for 30 minutes to cover up for the overs lost on Day 1 due to rain. Sri Lankan bowlers will be looking to break the Hales-Bairstow partnership and get into the lower-order of England. The first couple of overs will be very crucial and England batsmen will have to concentrate hard in the middle. All eyes will be in Alex Hales who is looking set to score his maiden Test century. Meanwhile, Dasun Shanaka could well end up with a 5-wicket haul on his debut as well.

The England lower-order can be irritating at times and can surely contribute with some valuable runs for their side. Moeen Ali, Broad, Finn and Anderson can all bat. Although, Alastair Cook couldn’t reach the 10,000 run-mark on Day 1 as he was out for just 16. But his teammate James Anderson could well end up equaling Kapil Dev’s record of 434 wickets in Tests as England come out to bowl. Day 2 promises to enthrall fans of the longer-format with more excitement and thrill.
