England are currently 200 for the loss of three wickets in 61 overs before Tea break. Alex Hales falls prey to left-arm spinner Milinda Siriwardana. He went back to the pavilion after scoring 83 runs off 145 balls. He was pissed as he failed to convert another half century into a big score. He shared a 96 run stand with Joe Root to bring England back on track in this innings. Root is currently batting on 69 alongside James Vince 22, trying to put pressure on Sri Lankan bowlers. He completed his 20th half century in Tests. Rangana Herath is still searching for his 300th Test wicket. LIVE CRICKET SCORECARD: England vs Sri Lanka, 2nd Test at Chester-le-street

England accelerated after Lunch Break having scored 117 runs in 30 overs and losing just one wicket of Hales. Angelo Mathews wasted his review, appealing for LBW against Joe Root which was way off the stumps. Rangana Herath almost got his 300th scalp as he had a stumping chance against James Vince. England had a good start despite losing wickets early on in the first session. The pitch is a bit slow and the ball is keeping a bit low than usual.

Before this Nick Compton gave his wicket away trying to pull the short ball towards fine-leg region. But the ball went to Lakmal, who took a stunning catch on the boundary. Alastair Cook fell short of 5 runs trying to reach 10,000 runs in Tests. He made 15 before getting back to the pavilion. He will be the youngest to reach 10,000 runs.

Brief Scores: England 200/3 in 31 overs (Joe Root 69, James Vince 22; Milinda Siriwardana 1 for 16) vs Sri Lanka
