England pacer Katherine Brunt has been ruled out of the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 2018 after the recurrence of a chronic back injury. The issue flared up during a warm-up match against India on Wednesday.

The 33-year-old pulled out off her opening over in pain after managing five deliveries during the India practice match and left the field. Subsequent scans showed the recurrence of the back issue which has ended her World Cup.

Fran Wilson has been drafted into the squad as her replacement but she won’t be available for England’s opening match against Sri Lanka on Sunday.

England are in group A alongside defending champions West Indies, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

England, the current ODI World champions, are aiming for their second WWT20 title.

The 2018 edition of the event is the first standalone tournament of its kind. The ICC, in its efforts to further push the growth of women’s cricket, has separated the marquee event from the men’s competition for the first time and it will be broadcast live across television and digital platforms in more than 200 countries.
