Play was abandoned without a ball bowled on the second day of England‘s four-day tour match against Australia A in Hobart on Thursday.

Match umpires said play will start 30 minutes earlier on Friday’s third day, although the weather forecast is for more rain.

The Bellerive Oval pitch was covered for virtually all of Thursday, denying the England batsmen valuable time in the middle to prepare for the opening Ashes Test against Australia in Brisbane on November 21.

The England openers batted through the entire opening day on Wednesday, reaching stumps at 318 without loss, with skipper Alastair Cook unbeaten on 154 and Michael Carberry 153 not out.

England will have a further warm-up game against a New South Wales invitational XI in Sydney from November 13.
