England are brimming with confidence after a comprehensive 3-1 Test series win over South Africa. They outclassed their opponents, and now have their eyes set on the 3-Test series versus West Indies. Former West Indiesâ legend Curtly Ambrose stated that Joe Root and co. are firm favourites in the series. West Indiesâ record in England is nothing to be proud of, losing last 14 of 17 Tests. Ambrose rued aside any chance that Jason Holderâs men have. Both teams will collide in the first-ever day-night Test in England, on Thursday at Edgbaston.
Speaking to BBC Radio, Ambrose said, âWhether it’s a pink or a red ball, the way they are playing now, I am very, very concerned. England are the favourites, they have just beaten South Africa 3-1… and South Africa are a better team than the West Indies at the moment. (England’s) confidence is sky high.â He further explained, “The West Indies on the other hand will have to play exceptionally well, first of all to compete, let alone win a game. Speaking from the heart as a West Indian, I’m hoping they can at least win a match or compete. But as a realist, I’m not so sure they are going to compete against England.â West Indies are coming in of a 2-1 series defeat against Pakistan at home – their sixth consecutive series loss.
