Earlier, India started the post-lunch session at the score of 415 for the loss of seven wickets, as Ravicnahdran Ashwin and Jayant Yadav were batting on 47 and 26, respectively. Ashwin also brought up his eight Test half-century, including five boundaries. It was at the score of 427, when Ashwin fell for 58 to Ben stokes, after being caught behind by Jonny Bairstow. It was pitched outside off, on a length, as Ashwin threw his bat at it from his body and got an outside edge, as it carried to the keeper, who did not appeal, while stokes went for it, and the umpire raised his finger.

Just 13 runs later, it was Jayant, who fell for 35 to Adil Rashid, after being caught by James Anderson, while he hot three boundaries. It was floating outside off, as Jayant went for a slog sweep, instead got a top edge, took a leading edge, and carried comfortably towards point, into the hands of Anderson, while he seemed to be disgusted with himself after the shot.
