England will continue their innings from 279-6 on Day 2 of the 3rd Test match against Sri Lanka at Lords’s. The live telecast of the match can be seen on Star Sports and Star Sports HD. After a good start to their first innings England were soon dealt with four quick blows. From 56-0 they were struggling at 84-4. England captain Alastair Cook and the man-in-form Jonny Bairstow took the innings forward from there on. As they repaired the damage and took England’s ship forward, Cook reached his half-century as well and became the 11th highest run-getter in Tests too. Suranga Lakmal had been impressive though for the visitors. LIVE CRICKET SCORECARD: England  vs  Sri Lanka , 3rd Test match at Lord’s

Sri Lanka could not stop Bairstow from scoring yet another century and the right-hander played another gem-of-an innings. Nick Compton though, who was retained in the England team for the third Test failed to make his mark yet again. He was out for just 1. Nuwan Pradeep was excellent for the Lankans as he picked up 2 wickets, along with Rangana Herath who also claimed 2. Day 2 will bring more excitement as England’s lower order will look to pile on more runs for the side and Sri Lanka’s bowlers will look to make the most of the first session of play. With Bairstow and Chris Woakes at the crease England will hope they can reach the 350 run mark at least.

Meanwhile, England had won the toss and elected to bat first. Kumar Sangakkara had run the bell at Lord’s to continue the tradition and signal the start of the game.
