England started the second Test match against Sri Lanka with a lot of confidence. Star bowler for Sri Lanka in the first Test, Dasun Shanaka has been rested for the second and the rest of the bowlers took charge. They bowled beautifully in the morning as Suranga Lakmal yet again restricted Alastair Cook for a low score. Nick Compton also failed to make any mark with his performance but it was Alex Hales who continued to perform with a nerve of steel, scoring 83 runs. Joe Root showed his potential scoring an 80 while Jonny Bairstow missed on his half-century for just a couple of runs. England ended the day with 310 runs for 6 wickets.

With an all-round performance, England won the first Test at Headingley, with an innings and 88 runs. Jonny Bairstow scored a brilliant century while James Anderson remained the most effective with the ball. Though Sri Lanka’s bowling attack looked attractive, their batting failed miserably in front of the experienced English bowlers.
