Opting to bat, England were led by a double-ton from Alastair Cook (his fourth overall) and 13th hundred by Joe Root. Dawid Malan also helped himself to his maiden fifty courtesy some ordinary bowling by West Indies. After a mammoth 243, Cook was trapped lbw by Roston Chase, who stood out with a 4-for. Nonetheless, England posted 514 for 8 decl. and visitors are struggling at 44 for 1 at stumps on Friday.

Visitors have a humongous task of surviving against the menacing pair of James Anderson and Stuart Broad. Broad created some chances but was unlucky with a dropped catch off his bowling by Ben Stokes. Anderson scalped a wicket off Kraigg Brathwaite and will be West Indies’ biggest threat when play resumes. However, Kyle Hope and Kieran Powell have battled out a mini evening session cut short by rain yesterday and will begin from scratch to stand firm against England’s daunting score. It is expected to be cloudy on Day Three as well; some respite for West Indies.
