The International Cricket Council (ICC) is contemplating of conducting every third 50-over World Cup in the Indian subcontinent.
Â
The huge success of the recently-concluded World Cup in the subcontinent could have prompted the governing body to mull over such a move.
Â
According to a report in Times of India, the media rights of the ICC will be up for grabs in the 2015-2023 period. India â a super market for mega cricket events â hosting the World Cup will serve as motivation for the sponsors.
Â
This would imply that the cricketâs governing body may do away with the current rotation policy to decide the host for the biggest event of the One-Day Internationals (ODIs).
Â
A top official from the ICC was quoted in the newspaper as saying, “We are going to give a serious thought to the subject. Between 2015 and 2023, India will surely host some important ICC event but there won’t be any 50-over World Cup, which is the biggest draw for any ICC event. If the board agrees, the 2023 World Cup could be held here in the subcontinent.”

If the ICC implements the idea then India may host the 2023 World Cup instead of South Africa.
