Everything you need to know about six-hitting machine Sherfane Rutherford – Delhi Capitals’ latest IPL debutant

Delhi Capitals handed out debut to exciting young talent, West IndiesSherfane Rutherford, in Match 37 of IPL 2019 against Kings XI Punjab at the Feroz Shah Kotla on Saturday.

Rutherford, 20, was picked up by the franchise for INR 2 crore at the IPL 2019 auction last year from a base price of INR 40 Lakh.

Rutherford, who made headlines when he slammed six sixes in a 13-ball 45 for Guyana Amazon Warriors against Trinbago Knight Riders in this year’s Caribbean Premier League, saw his name attracting plenty of interest from Capitals and two-time IPL winners Kolkata Knight Riders. His hitting prowess was also on show during the inaugural Global T20 Canada, when he smacked 11 fours and 10 sixes during a 66-ball unbeaten 134 in the Qualifier against an attack featuring Tim Southee, Sheldon Cottrell, Andre Russell and Fawad Ahmed. (FOLLOW SCORE: DC vs KXIP)

This earned him a spot in West Indies’ T20I squad for a series against India in November. He did not get a chance on tour, but brings to the Capitals squad a proper big-hitting option.

Ther were host of changes for both the teams – three each to be precise. Delhi bring in Sandeep Lammichhane, Colin Ingram and it’s a debut for Sherfane Rutherford. For Kings XI Punjab, spin bowling allrounder Harpreet Brar gets his debut game while Sam Curran and in comes Hardus Viljoen.
