South Africa, for the past few year, have had three Test captains in Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers, and Faf du Plessis. Now with the resignation of de Villiers as captain of the ODI team, du Plessis is being seen as the front-runner. Du Plessis himself has come out in the open and announced that he is ready to lead South Africa across formats.

Du Plessis is already leading the Proteas in Tests and T20Is. In an interview with Times of India, du Plessis said, Captaining a team brings the best out of me.

Du Plessis feels his experience playing alongside MS Dhoni, Michael Hussey and Stephen Fleming has only made him sharper and thoughtful as a player.

He also said that spending time with South Africa great Jacques Kallis in the dressing-room during his early years has made him a good learner of the game.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) are yet to formally announce a captain for the ODI side. Du Plessis s next international assignment will be leading a World XI side to play a 3-T20I series against Pakistan in Lahore.
