Pakistan thrashed India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 final, courtesy Fakhar Zaman‘s maiden century that put up colossal total. Complimenting the batting unit’s efforts, Pakistan bowlers obliterated India and won their maiden Champions Trophy title. Nonetheless, Zaman, who was given a reprieve on 3, stated that he was disappointed with MS Dhoni‘s lack of enthusiasm after he reached three figures. Zaman ended as the highest run-scorer for Pakistan in the tournament and also became the only player from his country to score a hundred in an ICC tournament final.

“I was a little disappointed by MS Dhoni as he did not show much reaction after my hundred.  When I was batting well, Kohli and others were saying things to me so when I got to hundred I thought they would ignore it but when I looked at Kohli, I saw that he was looking down but graciously clapping for me”, Zaman said as quoted by PakPassion.

Jasprit Bumrah’s no-ball saved Zaman, after he had edged one to Dhoni, in the initial stage of the finale. The left-hander turned the tides in emphatic fashion and made India pay for their mistakes. Speaking on his ‘lucky escape’, he stated, “When I was caught behind, my heart sank. I was stunned and slowly started making my way back to the dressing room with all my hopes and dreams crushed. I kept thinking how could I lose my wicket here, I was supposed to score big, not get out on 3.”

“When the umpires stopped me, it was like a new hope. It felt like a new life. I thought to myself if this is a no-ball then today is surely my day”, concluded Pakistan’s new-found hero.
