‘Fat for a sportsman’: Congress member fat-shames Rohit Sharma, fames MASSIVE backlash
Congress member fat-shames Rohit, faces severe backlash
Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma has found himself to be a topic of political chaos, as a member from the Congress party, Shama Mohamed humiliated him by naming him ‘fat”. This remark by Shama has attracted severe reaction from the Bhartiya janta Party (BJP), leading to a political exchange.
Shama deleted the tweet soon after posting it as she faced severe criticism and caused controversy. Given below is the deleted post:

The controversy came out as Rohit Sharma got dismissed or 15 runs in India’s 2025 Champions Trophy clash against New Zealand on 2nd March. Even though India secured a 44-ru victory, Shama went on to Twitter (now known as ‘X’) and criticised Rohit’s fitness and leading skills.
After her post started making rounds on social media, Shehzad Poonawalla, who is a spokesperson from BJP countered her statement. Poonawalla mocked Congress’s own record under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi.
“Those who have lost 90 elections under captaincy of Rahul Gandhi are calling captaincy of Rohit Sharma unimpressive!” wrote Shehzad in his post.
“I guess 6 ducks in Delhi and 90 election losses is impressive but winning T20 World Cup isn’t!” his post further read.
Shama defends her views:
As the backlash started coming in from BJP leaders, Shama Mohamed tried to act innocent and bury her remarks, though she was still unapologetic. Even after her initial post, she stood by her statement, naming it as her right to free speech in a democracy.
