Former Indian batsman Jacob Martin under human trafficking scanner
Vadodara: Apr 25, 2011
A team of Delhi police has arrived here to find the whereabouts of former Indian batsman Jacob Martin who is wanted in connection with a human trafficking network, official sources said.
Delhi police on Thursday announced a reward of Rs 25,000 to those who will provide information regarding Martin, who played 10 ODIs for India.
The city-based cricketer, who recently announced retirement from the first-class cricket, is wanted in connection with the case registered at Delhi Airport police station in 2003. He allegedly took some non-cricketers to the UK on the pretext of playing club cricket.
The matter came to light after a man Nimesh Kumar was found travelling on a fake passport. Kumar disclosed that agent Rajender Bhiku Bhai Patel arranged his journey with the help of agents Martin and Janak Lal Bhogi Raj Pancholi for Rs 7 lakh.
Martin had formed a bogus team ‘Ajwa Sports Club’ for this purpose, the Delhi police had earlier said.
His anticipatory bail plea was rejected by a local court and later by the Delhi High Court.
