Former Indian Head Coach Praised Trio of Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja for performing well in Lord’s Test

Though the Indian team witnessed the bitter end of the third Test against England at Lord’s- narrowly losing the match by 22 runs, former head coach Ravi Shastri praised the lower-order batting lineup for their efforts

“Because you saw when Siraj batted, when Bumrah batted, when Jadeja was batting, once the ball was 40 overs old, they hardly put a foot wrong,” Shastri said on ‘The ICC review’.

“They were solid in defence and to bring that target down at lunch, 82 to get, you thought in the next 10 minutes it would be done and dusted. But to bring that 82 or 83 to 22 was a massive achievement,” he added.

”So, it just goes to show that (if) the top order had just been a little tougher and mentally stronger on Day 4, towards the end, this game would have been India’s,” he further added.

Ravi Shastri expressed confidence in India’s ability to bounce back in the series, but regretted that the team could have had a 3-0 lead if a few crucial moments till now had gone in their favour.

“It (the Lord’s Test) reminded me so much of the Test match in 2021 (at the Lord’s when Shastri was the head coach). Only on that occasion, it was India who batted first. Scores were very similar, 300, 300 and then a collapse in the second innings. At that time, India won,” he concluded.

Speaking about the match, both the teams had an equal first inning score of 387 runs. However it was for a collapse in the top-order batters from the Indian side in the second innings that led to the team losing the Lord’s Test by 22 runs. With only the tail-enders and Ravindra Jadeja standing by the end, the visitors could not have done much, and the team was wrapped up for 170 runs in a chase of 193.
