Former Sri Lanka wicketkeeper Guy de Alwis passed away on Saturday at the age of 52. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in early November.

De Alwis was receiving ayurvedic treatment up until his death late on January 11, 2013, Reuters reported.

The lanky wicketkeeper played for the island nation in their early days in cricket, the report said.

Born on February 15, 1960, De Alwis played 11 Test matches and 37 One-Day Internationals for Sri Lanka from 1983-88, also featuring in the 1983 World Cup in England.

De Alwis is the third Test cricketer from the island nation to pass away after Sridharan Jeganathan and Anura Ranasinghe.
