Former Team India physiotherapist Andrew Leipus hired by BCCI

Australian physiotherapist, Andrew Leipus, who has worked with the Indian team from 1999 to 2004, has been roped in by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for its National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. Known for improving the Indian team’s medical conditions, fitness level and stamina, Leipus brought about major changes in his earlier stint. Leipus is also contracted with Indian Premier League (IPL) side, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). “Leipus will take care of all the Indian players (who’re contracted with the Board) at the NCA,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying by Times of India on Wednesday.
Leipus declined to renew his contract after 2004 due to increase of media attention as he was often seen with key players, when they were suffering from injuries. Leipus was replaced by fellow Australian, John Gloster.
Leipus has already started working at BCCI’s NCA. He was closely monitoring India and Karnataka opener, KL Rahul, whose fitness was a major concern for the Ranji Trophy side, ahead of their match against Bengal. Rahul, who played a two-day practice match, looked in shape. Speaking about Rahul’s fitness, Leipus said that the opener will still need time to recover.
Leipus’ Indian connection does not end with KKR and BCCI. He is part of Indian pacer Zaheer Khan’s fitness company ‘ProSport’. ProSport provides fitness training and physiotherapy services. Along with Leipus, Zaheer also roped in former fitness trainer of India, Adrian Leroux.
