The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to appoint Gautam Gambhir as vice-captain for all three formats of the game. A decision could be announced after the selection meeting at Chennai on Friday to pick the squad for Caribbean tour.

The post will be vacant as Virender Sehwag is likely to miss the tour due to shoulder surgery.

BCCI is likely to send a young team while resting the seniors for the tour. India will play three-Test Match, five-match ODI series and one-off T20 international.

Gambhir has been in excellent form over the past few months and contributed pivotal 71 in World Cup final against Sri Lanka.

The south-paw also impressed the selectors with the way he led the Indian team in their 5-0 victory in the ODIs against New Zealand in November-December last year.

The fortunes of Kolkata Knight Riders also changed for the better after Gambhir took over as the captain.
