Bangalore: Dec 25, 2012

Indian openers Gautam Gambhir and Ajinkya Rahane had a shaky start but consolidated after the powerplay to put on 75 runs in the first 10 overs of the first Twenty20 match between India and Pakistan in Bangalore.

An out-of-sorts Gambhir had a nervy start as he was troubled by the seven-foot tall pacer Mohammed Irfan while Rahane managed to play a few good shots.

The runs weren’t coming easily as the duo put on just 37 runs in the first six overs.

Umar Gul was brought into the attack after the powerplay and was dispatched for 13 runs as the Indian openers began to get a move on. Mohammed Hafeez then, threw the ball to his in-form spinner Saeed Ajmal in the eight over in search of the first wicket, but Rahane hit him for a glorious six over deep extra cover.

Hafeez made another change, bringing in Shahid Afridi but he too went for runs as Rahane inched closer to his half-century.

With such a glorious start, India should be looking to post any total around 180 runs.

Brief Scores: India 75 for no-loss (Gautam Gambhir 32*, Ajinkya Rahane 41*; Mohammad Irfan 0 for 20) vs Pakistan
