Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir chose Aamir Khan as his favourite actor over his franchise owner Shahrukh Khan, even though he feels fortunate to have worked with the latter.
“My favourite actor has always been Aamir Khan. Taare Zameen Par is very close to my heart,” he said.
The 31-year-old further said that Shahrukh is an unbelievable owner.
“He’s an unbelievable owner. I have been very fortunate to work with him. Whatever decision has been taken on the cricket field since the time I’ve taken over as a captain, has been taken by me. Whether we have done well or not, there’s been no interference from him,” Gambhir was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
Speaking about the IPL 2013 spot-fixing controversy, Gambhir said, “If a handful of people end up doing something wrong, then that doesn’t mean that the image of the entire squad will be damaged.”
“When you go to [cricket coaching] academies, there are still young kids who play the sport with the same passion and want to represent the country. These are the people who carry the image of the sport rather the small number of people who do something wrong,” he added.
Gambhir had been left out of the Indian squad for quite some time now. He feels such a phase will make him a better human being.
“It’s part and parcel of any sportsman’s life. Since I started playing the sport, I’ve gone through a lot of ups and downs, and this is just another phase. It makes you a better human being and it might help me be a better cricketer as well.”
The Delhi southpaw said that captaincy was a great challenge for him.
“It’s always a great challenge and honour leading any side because it teaches you a lot of things. Captaining the Kolkata team has always been very to me [sic]. I think I was fortunate to lead quality players. If you see the overall performance, as a team, we have done well in the last three years.”
For Gambhir, Virender Sehwag is his go-to-guy in the Indian team.
“Virender Sehwag is someone who has been a very close friend. We have had some great moments together, both on and off the cricket field. We share a very good relationship and, hopefully, it will remain the same.”
For most of the Indian cricketers, winning the World Cup in 2011 would be the most cherished moment. However, for Gambhir it isn’t.
“Everyone would say winning the World Cup, but for me, it was drawing the Test series against South Africa in South Africa [in 2010-11]. Not a lot of people were expecting us to equalise the series, but we did it.”
Talking about his cricketing journey so far, Gambhir said, “It’s  been exciting for the fact that it has not been linear; the ups and downs have their share of fun. They teach you a lot and in the process I have matured as a cricketer and a human being.”
