Chris Gayle unfurled a whirlwind half-century as Royal Challengers Bangalore reached 173 for three in their allotted 20 overs against Pune Warriors India in their IP 2012 clash at Pune.

Gayle was in his elements as he bludgeoned his way to 57 of 31 balls which included six sixes and three boundaries. Tillakaratne Dilshan ably supported the West Indian with a contrasting half-century.

Put into bat, Gayle and Dilshan got Bangalore off to a steady start. But once West Indian settled in, he went hammer and tongs hitting two boundaries firstly off Alfonso Thomas and four sixes off Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the fifth and the sixth over.

Angelo Mathews managed to halt the Gayle-storm when he had the left-hander caught at the long-on fence.

RCB then were dealt with another blow when Virat Kohli was caught by Steven Smith off Rahul Sharma.

Dilshan and Saurabh Tiwary then joined forces as they added 43 runs for the third wicket.

Once Dilshan departed, Tiwary struck few lusty blows to fire RCB past 170

Brief Scores: RCB 173 for 3 in 20 overs (Chris Gayle 57, Tillakaratne Dilshan 53; Angelo Mathews 1 for 14) vs PWI
