Glenn Maxwell confident attaining fitness ahead of tri-series in West Indies

Melbourne: Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who suffered a side strain during the recently-concluded Indian Premier League ( IPL), is confident that he will be declared fit for the upcoming Caribbean tri-series. Maxwell sustained increasing soreness in his left abdomen area after Kings XI Punjab’s seven-wicket defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) on May 15. Maxwell said he felt bad to leave the tournament in the midway, but added the it was necessary keeping in mind the country’s upcoming tri-series. “That last game I knew it was gone … it was disappointing to leave the tournament early but in terms of the bigger picture, it was the right decision to go home,” Maxwell was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au reported. But now, the all-rounder is confident that he would be declared absolutely fit for the Australia’s series opener against the hosts, starting at Providence Stadium in Guyana on June 7. “I feel like I’m ready to go and hopefully.I’ll be ready for that first game. That’s going to be my biggest challenge, to try and get ready for the first one. But if not that game, I should be right for the rest of the tournament,” he added. MAxwell had a poor IPL 2016 before he was ruled out after being injured. He managed to score just 179 at 19.88. He managed to score a couple of fifties along the way and struck at a strike rate of 144.35. He will hope that his form improves against the West Indies, if he is fit for the tour.
