Agarkar speaks on not picking Karun for Champions Trophy

Karun Nair has not had luck on his side once again as he has not been included in either of the squads for Champions Trophy 2025 and ODI series against England, even though he has been explosively batting in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25.

Chief selector Ajit Agarkar and skipper Rohit Sharma came to the press conference and announced India’s squad for both the Champions Trophy and ODI series against England. There were rumours coming about Karun might end up getting recalled in India’s ODI side, but he did not.

Ajit explained the reason behind not picking Nair in the Champions Trophy or ODI squad. He stated that the selection committee talked about him, but they thought it’s difficult to include everyone in the squad.

“We had a chat about Karun Nair. But it’s difficult to fit in everyone in this squad. If there’s an injury, there could be a discussion around him,” Agarkar said

It was earlier learnt that BCCI will not pick Nair in India’s squad for the marquee event. The reason is that according to the selectors, there is no weak link in India’s ODI setup as of now.. To fill the gap by Karun Nair, BCCI will need to find a weak link in India’s ODI setup which is currently difficult for them to find.
