Australian top order batsman Shaun Marsh celebrates his 33rd birthday today. Marsh is the son former Australian great Geoff Marsh, and brother of Mitchell Marsh. He made his international debut in a T20I debut against West Indies in 2008. Soon, he’d make his ODI debut against the very same team. Marsh though, had to wait till 2011 for his first Test cap, which he earned against Sri Lanka. Injuries and inconsistency has resulted in him playing just 17 Tests, 50 ODIs and 15 T20Is till date. Marsh also represents Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), as well as Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League (BBL). Marsh’s first foray into the cricketing world came during the IPL 2008 season. Despite missing the first few games of the tournament, Marsh managed to score 616 runs, and finished as the Orange Cap holder. His form led to a national call up for tour against West Indies.

His international career hasn’t blossomed till date. Despite scoring a match-winning 81 on his ODI debut against West Indies, he has failed to be a regular starter in the side. In his 8-year career so far, he has played 50 ODIs and scored 1857 runs at an average of 39.51. He made his Test debut in 2011 against Sri Lanka, but has struggled to be a regular even in the longest format. A total of 1094 runs is all he has achieved in 17 Tests, at an average of 37.72.

In IPL, Marsh has been the lynchpin for his side KXIP. In eight seasons so far with the franchise, he has amassed a total of 2213 runs, averaging just a shade below 41. He also represents Perth Scorchers in the BBL. Marsh was a key figure of the side which won the title in 2013-14 and 2014-15. He is also one of the three players to have scored over 1000 runs in the BBL.
