Haroon Rasheed: Saeed Ajmal, Younis Khan can still deliver in ODIs

Karachi: Pakistan cricket chief selector Haroon Rasheed has said doors for out-of favour players such as Younis Khan and Saeed Ajmal are still open, and they can be called up if the team needs them. Rasheed said he had huge respect for these two players for their great contributions, but added that at this point in time, their inclusion in the ODI squad was not appropriate, the Dawn reports. He praised Younis as an important player of high calibre for the Test team. On Ajmal, he said his performance is being continuously monitored. Ajmal, who is making comeback to competitive cricket with a re-moulded action, returned with impressive figures of 8/100 in Worcestershire‘s innings defeat of Hampshire. Earlier, PTI reported that in an interview to “Express” channel, Younis without taking names openly suggested that he had not been treated fairly by the captain and coach. “I don’t know if I had not scored those 177 runs in the fourth innings of the third test in Sri Lanka what would have happened. Most probably I would have been dropped. But this is not the way to treat senior players they need to be given confidence and I have always played for and give my best for Pakistan,” Younis said. PTI had also reported that Saeed Ajmal has said that he is ready to retire from international cricket if the Pakistan cricket authorities tell him clearly he is no longer a part of their plans. “I have always played on merit and my performances but if the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) feels I can’t play for the national team anymore, I would request them to let me know so that I can than retire gracefully and with self-respect,” Ajmal told on Geo News channel here today.
