Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers slam centuries to take South Africa past 300-run mark against Pakistan

South African opener Hashim Amla combined with skipper AB de Villiers to help South Africa post a mammoth total of 343/5 against Pakistan in the third ODI at Johannesburg.

Winning the toss and electing to field, Misbah-ul-Haq was rewarded almost immediately as fast bowler Mohammad Irfan dismissed opener Graeme Smith in the second over.

Amla was joined by Colin Ingram who got a decent start but became Irfan’s second victim of the day as he edged a bouncer to wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal who took a fairly simple catch.

Skipper de Villiers walked in with the score at 42 for two in the 14th over and what followed was sheer consolidation.

The duo played some exquisite strokes on their way to a hundred each. While Amla continued to caress the ball with immaculate timing like always, de Villiers pulled and punched deliveries the loose deliveries bowled at him.

They put on a record partnership of 238 runs for the third wicket in ODIs before Amla gave an easy catch to Misbah-ul-Haq at extra cover off Wahab Riaz. He went for 122 off just 113 deliveries; an innings laced with 9 fours and one six.

AB de Villiers was dismissed by Saeed Ajmal in the 47th over after he scored 128 off just 108 deliveries.

Faf du Plessis and Farhaan Behardien took the South African total to a massive . The visitors will have to bat out of their skins to overcome the South African total.
