Hashim Amla becomes 4th South African to score 8,000 Test runs

South Africa‘s top-ranked batsman Hashim Amla became the fourth South African to go past 8,000 runs in Test cricket. He achieved the feat on Day 1 of the second of the four-Test series against hosts England at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Friday. He is currently behind AB de Villiers at number three, while former skipper Graeme Smith is at the second spot. The table is led by former South African great Jacques Kallis. Since de Villiers is not playing this Test, there is a good chance Amla can well go ahead him and take the number three spot. With South Africa playing England on Day 1 of the second Test, earlier, England fast bowler James Anderson became the first fast bowler to take 300 Test wickets while p-laying at home. He achieved the feat when he dismissed opener Dean Elgar for mere six after being caught by Liam Dawson in the ninth over, with just 18 runs on the board. Nevertheless, Amla along with opener Heino Kuhn have taken the charge of the innings, with South Africa already having gone past 50 runs and have managed to lose just a wicket in the form of Elgar.
