Hashim Amla slammed a fine 112 to help South Africa post 301 for eight against Sri Lanka in their first One-Day International at Boland Park on Wednesday.

Lasith Malinga completed a five-wicket haul taking 5-53.

Amla added 144 runs with Jacques Kallis, who scored 72, for the second wicket and then put up a 91-run stand with captain AB de Villiers (52) for the third.

This was after Malinga struck early in the third over to remove Graeme Smith.

The right-handed batsman Amla hit eight fours in his innings of 112 off 128 deliveries. Skipper de Villiers made a quickfire half-century off just 40 balls hitting seven boundaries.

Malinga claimed the key wickets of Amla, Albie Morkel (25), Faf du Plessis and Dale Steyn.

Brief Scores: South Africa 301 for 8 in 50 overs (Hashim Amla 112, Jacques Kallis 72, AB de Villiers 52; Lasith Malinga 5 for 53) vs Sri Lanka.
