Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa shared his thoughts on Jasprit Bumrahâs performance, saying the star pacer tends to become slightly âwaywardâ when he gets âdesperateâ for wickets. In the second T20I against Australia, Bumrah recorded figures of 2/26 but struggled to take wickets in his first three overs. With India being bowled out for just 125, the team needed early breakthroughs from him to stay in the game.
However, Bumrahâs wickets came only in the final over, by which time Australia was already close to victory. Uthappa pointed out that Bumrah appeared a bit erratic early on, trying too hard for wickets, which allowed the Australian batters to capitalize on his lack of control.
âI have observed that whenever Bumrah gets desperate to pick up wickets, he becomes slightly wayward. When he is disciplined and hits a good line and length, he mostly picks up wickets.â. âAustralia took full advantage of that waywardness at the start,â Uthappa said on Star Sports.
Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh gave Australia a strong foundation in their run chase, putting early pressure on the Indian bowlers. Although Australia lost a few wickets toward the end, the hosts comfortably reached the target with 40 balls to spare, sealing a dominant win.
âWhen we were bowling after scoring 125, the start was very important. If we had picked up two or three wickets in the first three or four overs, the game could have been closer because we have quality spinners in the middle overs,â Uthappa said.
âI felt we were probably trying too hard to pick up wickets. So we got a little wayward.â
