History Will Be Made: The ad that unites Australia’s Ashes legends

Ever wondered how would it be if eleven of Australia’s greatest Ashes stars had to step on the greens at the same time? Ahead of the Ashes in 2010-11, Cricket Australia came up with The History Will Be Made ad to capture the excitement, passion and anticipation.

The ad features 11 of Australia’s greatest Ashes heroes, as they take on the field against England stars Kevin Pietersen and Ian Botham, who are set to take a guard. One of the umpires is the legendary Dickie Bird. The eleven Australians that feature in the video are: Don Bradman, Ray Lindwall, Richie Benaud, Rod Marsh, Dennis Lillee, Greg Chappell, Allan Border, Steve Waugh, Shane Warne, Ricky Ponting, and Mitchell Johnson.

Ashes is the pinnacle sporting event for Australia and England, and in this the beautifully crafted, the special effects team have done a tremendous job in bringing together the range of cricketers whose careers spanned from the 1920s to 2010s. They had to sift through the old footages of cricketers from Bradman to Lindwall to Lillee to Chappell to Ponting. A lot of effort went in cutting them out and re-creating the scenes on new backgrounds. What adds to the drama is voice of the regular Channel Nine commentators Mark Nicholas and Michael Slater.

Australia went on to lose the much publicised 2010-11 Ashes 3-1. However they have reclaimed it in 2013-14 and all the excitement is set to begin once again on July 8, 2015, when Australia tour England in quest to defend the urn.
